Okay,
so it's the Sunday before the Con. I'm in my room, putting the finishing
touches on the web site. Tim flew into town a couple of days ago, and
he's currently sitting on my couch working on Nice Guy art while watching
my DVD of Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back. As if he hasn't already seen
it fifty times...
Well,
we're finally here, and doing something with this project. I won't get
into the history of it, since I already bored you with that on the "Concept"
page, but this has been a long time coming. This page is really a motivational
tool. I can't speak for Tim, but at least I, for one, need deadlines if
I'm ever going to accomplish anything. Just having something that I plan
to get done "eventually" means it's not going to get done. Hence
my many unfinished screenplays, short stories, web pages... We finally
decided to get ourselves on a schedule for the Nice Guy, starting with
this to keep us working on it, and setting a schedule to get the first
issue of the comic done. Don't hold your breath. Won't be on the stands
next week. But we may be pimping it at next year's Con.
And
speaking of pimping...we put on our felt hats in just about 4 days. If
you've never been Comic-Con International, you are sorely missing out.
It's a glorious freakshow. And you don't have to be a comic fan to be
there. I'm the monster movie freak, and I go for the movie merchandise
and the celebrities. One of my favorite years going to this thing was
when I got to sit in on the John Carpenter panel when he was selling "Vampires".
Where else am I going to go to be able to meet John Carpenter? This year,
I am SO psyched. Huge loads of people coming, from stars to writers to
directors. I can't believe I'm going to sit in on the "Kill Bill"
panel...actually go to a panel where Quentin Tarantino, David Carradine,
and MICHAEL FREAKING MADSEN are on the same stage.
But,
anyway, aside from us looking to check out this cool stuff--well, me checking
out this cool stuff while Tim's busy schmoozing with his growing network
of pro artist pals--we're going to be pushing this site. We printed up
some business card sized teaser cards. Has the main Nice Guy page art
piece on it (Jeff in the rain), with the text, "Are you a nice guy?"
next to it, and on the back of the card is the web address. We're hoping
to press these cards in the hands of as many people as possible in the
four days we'll be tooling around there. Hopefully, some percentage of
those folks will actually not throw them away, and will remember, when
they get home, that they have it, and may want to check it out. Hope they
do. Hope they like it. Hope they let us know. We'll see.
So,
you'd have to have watched Michael Madsen's "Vengeance Unlimited"
show to get this (I think only me and my roommate Aaron watched that one),
but if I can get up to the mic at the question and answer period of the
Kill Bill panel, I think I'm going to ask Madsen who he thinks would win
in a straight-up fight...Mr. Blonde or Mr. Chapel. Wonder if he'll find
that funny or just think I'm a big film nerd? Hopefully we'll find out.
All
right. Time for a lunch break, and to see what Tim's been drawing. Going
to upload the site here, and it will officially be live. Hopefully, this
is just step one in our big Nice Guy plan. Hope it goes places. Stay tuned.

Too
freakin’ long! That’s how long it’s taken to get this
thing going. But hey, at least we’re here now. As Michael said,
we need deadlines to keep us working, so making sure this site has fresh
content on a regular basis is a good place to start. Obviously our ultimate
goal is to get something on the shelves of your local comic shop, but
for now this is the best way to introduce you to the guys and the world
they live in.
I’ll
try to do as much art as I can given the fact that Grad School might take
up just a little bit of my time occasionally. We have some cool ideas
for things to add to the site in the near future. Make sure you stop by
the message board and let us know what you think. I hope you like what
you see here.
See,
short and sweet. Man writers go on and on… :)
